At SOIL, the students get some unique opportunities to have an experiential learning. We are put on live projects and are able to apply the concepts learned in the class. Recently two of us from the HR leadership program were fortunate to have had the opportunity to design and facilitate an Assessment centre as a part of our learning process.
I come from a Training background and therefore when given the chance, I just lapped it up. To start with, we had no idea on how would we go about it. It sounded challenging and time consuming. Together, both of us started building things from scratch. Though the faculty gave us some valuable inputs and guided us all through the project, we were given a freehand at painting the canvas as long as we did justice to the intended outcome.
It took three days and nights of tireless research, brain storming and creative stimulation to finally come up with the design and sequence of events along with tools for assessment matching the objectives of the project . We were delighted to know that we would also be a part of the facilitation team since the Assessment Centre was to be conducted in-house for some select SOIL students.
It is one thing to create some action plan and an absolutely different feeling to see your creation –‘ Live in Action’. The sense of satisfaction that one gets out of such challenges is just amazing. It was a simulation of the real world we shall face again in ten months from now, being a part of the HR team in our future organization. Thank you SOIL and the Consulting team for believing in your students and trusting us with such important live assignments.
